Slovak Research and Development Agency (Agentúra na podporu výskumu a vývoja - APVV) is the only research and development grant agency in the Slovak Republic. It was established by the Act No.172/2005 in July 2005 and it is a successor of the previous agency running since 2001. APVV is the only instrument for distribution of public finances for research and development on the competitive basis in Slovakia. APVV is responsible for research and development promotion in all research fields, including international research cooperation.

The Technical University in Zvolen (TUZVO) has a unique position in university educational system of Slovakia, because we are the only university providing univestity education in the field of forestry, wood sciences, ecology and environmental and manufacturing technology. It follows up a rich and very old tradition of technical university studies in Slovakia, which dates back to the establishment of the Mining Academy in Banska Stiavnica in 1762, where are the Forestry Institute was establishet in 1 807.

Forest Research Institute in Zvolen

The Forest Research Institute in Zvolen is a governmental research body subordinated to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Slovak Republic. It has four research stations throughout the country – in Banská Štiavnica, Gabčíkovo, Košice, Liptovský Hrádok. The main objective of the Institute is to obtain new scientifc knowledge on forest ecosystems and their management. To achieve this aim it undertakes research research activities in the fields of biology, forest management, forest technology, economics and related areas. Institute’s research and development programme is based on national and international projects, supplemented by contracts with domestic and foreign companies as well as special activities charged by its founder.
